I am married to Karen Wolpert Sherman--going on 30 years--and have four wonderful children ranging from 13 to 22. I helped found St. Elizabeth Orthodox Christian Church in Murfreesboro, TN in 2005. I am a professor of English literature at Middle Tennessee State University, where I have taught since 1993. I currently teach undergraduate courses in introduction to literature, the renunciation of power in "The Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter" novels, British literature to 1660, the history of the English language, introduction to Shakespeare, the Inklings, early Christian literature of the Middle East, Anglo-Saxon Culture, and a study abroad course in London titled "The Appeal of Harry Potter." At the graduate level, I teach courses in Old English, Beowulf, Middle English, Chaucer, and studies in the history of the English language.
