KMG Psychiatry

Psychiatry / HealthCare, KAB Medical Group Inc
San Diego, California, United States

KMG Psychiatry is an integrative outpatient psychiatric practice operating under KAB Medical Group Inc, serving patients in San Diego, Chula Vista, and Vista, California. Founded in October 2016, the practice provides mental health care through psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, counseling, forensic mental health services, sleep medicine services, and interventional treatments. Its clinical work includes care for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and other psychiatric or neurodevelopmental conditions. The practice also places meaningful focus on supporting military personnel, veterans, families, and underserved communities. The practice was created to address gaps many patients experience when seeking outpatient psychiatric care. Long wait times, disconnected treatment, and limited access to newer evidence-based options can make it harder for individuals to receive timely support. KMG Psychiatry was built around a more complete model of care, where treatment begins with a detailed mental health evaluation and continues through a plan shaped by diagnosis, prior treatment response, current symptoms, and ongoing progress. This approach allows providers to make careful adjustments as a patient’s needs change over time. A central part of the practice’s philosophy is the understanding that psychiatric disorders often require more than one form of treatment. Medication management may be important for many patients, especially when symptoms are complex or conditions occur together. At the same time, therapy and counseling can help address trauma responses, coping patterns, behavioral concerns, and personal challenges that medication alone may not resolve. KMG Psychiatry uses these services together when appropriate, helping patients receive care that reflects the full nature of their mental health needs rather than relying on a single treatment path. KMG Psychiatry has a strong clinical focus on depression and PTSD, particularly among active-duty service members, veterans, and military-connected families. The practice recognizes that military patients may face distinct pressures related to service demands, trauma exposure, family responsibilities, and transitions in daily life. Treatment plans may include medication management, therapy, and interventional treatments when clinically indicated. This balanced outpatient model is intended to support patients with care that is consistent, practical, and responsive to the challenges they bring into treatment. One of the major services offered by KMG Psychiatry is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). The practice uses NeuroStar Advanced Therapy, an FDA-cleared technology approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder since 2008. TMS uses targeted magnetic pulses, similar in strength to those used in MRI machines, to stimulate underactive nerve cells in brain regions involved in mood regulation. This treatment may be considered for patients with depression who need an evidence-based option beyond traditional medication management. TMS treatment at KMG Psychiatry is provided in the office, with the patient awake and seated comfortably. During treatment, a small, curved magnetic coil is gently placed against the patient’s head after an initial mapping session has identified the treatment area. Patients may hear a clicking sound and feel a light tapping sensation at the treatment site. Sessions generally last between 19 and 37 minutes, depending on the individualized protocol, and are typically administered five days per week over a four- to six-week period. The practice describes TMS as a noninvasive treatment with a favorable safety profile. It does not require anesthesia, surgery, or implants, and patients can return to normal daily activities after each session. Possible side effects include headaches, lightheadedness, scalp discomfort, facial muscle spasms, and tingling sensations in the face. Rare risks may include seizures, hearing problems without proper ear protection, and manic symptoms in patients with bipolar disorder. KMG Psychiatry integrates TMS into a broader clinical plan rather than treating it as a separate or isolated service. KMG Psychiatry has received recognition for both its community role and its experience with TMS treatment. The practice was voted Best in San Diego by SD Magazine in 2024 and 2025. It has also achieved Diamond Circle Provider status from NeuroStar for administering more than 2,400 NeuroStar treatments in a single year. With multiple regional offices and appointment availability for new and returning patients within one week of booking, the practice continues to provide outpatient psychiatric care with attention to access, continuity, and individualized treatment.
