Nicole Metz

Vice President of HR in Government Contracting U.S
(She/Her) · New City, NY

Ask Nicole Metz what she has spent her career doing, and the answer is more straightforward than her titles might suggest: developing people. Across more than thirty years in human resources and talent management, her work has centered on helping individuals build the skills, confidence, and judgment required for roles they have not yet grown into. Nicole Metz began her career in federal account sales at Xerox Corporation before moving into the company’s training organization. Sales gave her a practical understanding of what businesses need from their people; training showed her what people can achieve with clear instruction, meaningful opportunities, and candid feedback. She trained hundreds of new sales representatives in selling skills, product knowledge, and professional services, became certified across Xerox’s complete sales training curriculum, and was eventually promoted to train the managers responsible for developing other trainers. That focus expanded at Science Applications International Corporation, where she served as Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and later Director of Talent Development and Management. Her responsibilities included developing program managers and information technology professionals and delivering program management training throughout the organization. Her contributions earned her the company’s People First Award, selected from a workforce of approximately fifteen thousand employees. Among the recognitions on her resume, the award’s emphasis on putting people first perhaps captures her professional philosophy most clearly. At TASC Corporation, she served as Senior Director of Talent Management for the Intelligence Group. Working closely with senior executives and division directors, she led initiatives involving succession planning, organizational design, executive coaching, new manager assimilation, workforce metrics, and leadership development. Her responsibilities also extended to some of human resources’ most difficult work, including employee redeployment and reduction-in-force planning. She approached those responsibilities with the belief that an organization’s values are especially visible in how it treats people during periods of transition. She developed TASC’s first redeployment guide to give employees practical support as they searched for new opportunities, and the guide was subsequently adopted as an internal resource. Nicole Metz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Business Administration from Marymount University, graduating with honors. She has been affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management and the Association for Talent Development. She has operated her own consulting practice, advising organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small government contractors. Her guidance for professionals entering human resources reflects the same practical approach that shaped her career: understand the business before attempting to advise it, deliver feedback early and specifically, and handle difficult conversations with professionalism and respect. Above all, she believes development requires accountability. A plan that is written but never revisited may document an intention, but meaningful growth comes from consistent follow-through.
