For over forty years, he has been involved in a ministry that provides eye exams and free glasses to men in the recovery program at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. This longstanding involvement demonstrates his enduring dedication to helping people in vulnerable circumstances. Randall Melchert has supported countless patients by addressing vision challenges with a practical and compassionate approach. His care has helped preserve and improve vision for individuals across a wide range of conditions, offering them renewed independence and quality of life. For more than three decades, he has been a respected figure in the Greater Milwaukee optometric community. His clinic offers comprehensive exams that include advanced screenings for glaucoma, cataracts, and other eye health issues. Utilizing up-to-date diagnostic tools, his practice focuses on early detection and preventive care to safeguard long-term vision. Randall G. Melchert OD has contributed to the advancement of optometry through his involvement in developing and testing new lens technologies. These include oxygen-permeable and tinted contact lenses, as well as lenses designed for individuals with color blindness. His clinic was among the early adopters of Optos Optomap retinal imaging, which helps detect vision-threatening conditions before symptoms appear. He is a dedicated member of the American Optometric Association and has served in leadership roles, including president of the Kettle Moraine Optometric Society. His service on the boards of Prevent Blindness-Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Optometric Association reflects his commitment to improving eye health at the community and state levels. Dr. Randall G. Melchert, OD, earned his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978 from the Illinois College of Optometry. Before that, he attended the University of Wisconsin campuses in Madison, Oshkosh, and Fox Valley. At ICO, he served as Class Treasurer. He was honored with the Eugene W. Strawn Award for Leadership and Service, reflecting his early dedication to professional growth and his commitment to helping others. Founded in 1978, his clinic operates with the guiding motto, “Your vision is our passion.” Melchert Eye Care delivers a range of services, including general eye exams, disease management, and custom eyewear solutions. Patients benefit from a respectful and welcoming environment supported by a knowledgeable and attentive team. Optometrist Randall Melchert has participated in multiple mission trips, providing eye care in countries such as Thailand, Panama, Jordan, and the Dominican Republic. He has also worked with underserved populations in New York City and partnered with organizations like Prevent Blindness and Samaritan’s Purse. Additionally, he has accompanied veterans on Honor Flights to Washington, DC, to help honor their service. Faith is a central part of his life. He is a long-time member of Brookside Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons and continues to participate in the church choir. His spiritual commitment also includes support for missionaries and faith-based initiatives. Outside his professional and faith commitments, Dr. Melchert enjoys cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, reading, and visiting museums focused on history. Time with his wife, five children, and grandchildren remains one of his greatest joys. Optometrist Randall Melchert serves as president of VCY America, a Christian broadcasting network, and contributes to the preservation of the historic Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse. Dr. Melchert continues to serve his patients and community with humility, consistency, and a deep sense of purpose.
